Newsletter end of Autumn term 2017
As we come to the end of term I would like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to staff, pupils and parents. Everyone in school has worked extremely hard this term and it is pleasing to see the progress that this is leading to. Thank you to parents and carers for your continued support and the warm welcome I have received during my first term at Patrington C.E. Primary Academy.
Church Service Please join us tomorrow at 9:30am in the church for our Christmas service when Y6 will retell the Christmas Stories, helped by the whole school joining in with carols. Y6 will also perform The Twelve Days of Christmas.
Toy Day As Friday is the last day of term, the children have been told they can bring in a game or toy to play with. They have been reminded that they should not bring:
- Anything electrical including with batteries
- Anything with lots of small parts which may get lost
- Any ‘favourite’ or ‘special’ toy which has a lot of sentiment or meaning attached to it
E Safety I am sure that many children have asked for phones, tablets, games consoles etc for Christmas. As you will be aware these can present dangers to children when used on line without correct supervision. A number of our children talk about ‘chatting’ on line to people they don’t know. We would ask you to be vigilant in monitoring your child’s on line activity and setting up security settings.
We have received the following warning which we urge you to take note of:
It has come to our attention that there is an app used by children on phones, ipads, tablets and desktop computers that could potentially be putting children at risk. The police are aware of this.
The app is called LIVE.me .
The web page says it can live stream video chat, so that others can comment interject and view live streaming in real time and make suggestions, ask questions etc. The video then remains on there and can be seen by others. From what we understand it is basically a chat room but we have been informed that this chatroom can be accessed by multiple users and in some scenarios children are being asked to ‘ carry out specific tasks’
Please could you check your children’s phones and ensure that this is removed.
Y6 SATs Preparation To support the children to achieve their very best at the end of Year 6, additional sessions will be offered in the New Year. These will begin week commencing 15/01/2018. Letters to invite children will be sent home during the first week back.
An information evening for parents will take place on 29.01.18 at 6pm. Examples of tests will be shown and ideas about how you can support your child will be shared.
Questionnaire Thank you for completing the parent questionnaire. There have been many positive responses and valid comments I will issue a response in the New Year.
Christmas Fair and Performances All Christmas events have been very well attended and a big thank you for supporting all fundraising. We have managed to raise £800 which is amazing and will enable our children to receive additional activities and engaging resources.
