Changes to the School Admissions Code
The Department of Education has recently confirmed that a new School Admissions Code will be in effect from 1st September 2021
The main purpose of the changes to the School Admission Code 2021 is to improve the in-year admission process, in particular for vulnerable children. The changes include introducing more detail on the process for managing in-year admissions; changes to improve the effectiveness of Fair Access Protocols; giving children adopted from state care outside of England equal admissions priority as children who were previously looked after in England; and clarification of which address to use for the admission of service or crown servant children.
There are also further minor clarification changes. These changes supersede information in the previous admissions policies for 2021-22 and 2022-23 which will be updated in due course.
In Year Admissions:
Parent/carers wishing to apply for a school place at the school should contact their ‘home’ local authority to seek advice on in-year school admissions and how to make an application Ebor Academy Trust participates in the local co-ordination of admissions applications and Fair Access Protocol. Ebor Academy Trust has requested that for the 2021/22 school year, that the East Riding of Yorkshire School Admissions team co-ordinate in-year admission requests on behalf of the governing body/academy trust as the admission authority for the school.
All applications should be made to the East Riding of Yorkshire School Admissions team who can be contacted at schooladmissions@eastriding.gov.uk, or by calling 01482 392100. Information on school admissions, including the East Riding Co-ordinated In-Year Admissions Scheme and application form/process can be found at https://www.eastriding.gov.uk/. Residents of other local authority areas should contact their ‘home’ local authority in the first instance to make an application. Where the school place applied for is to start immediately, Parent/carers who apply for an in-year school place will receive notification of the outcome of their application within 15 school days of the date the application is received by the East Riding School Admissions team. Applications made in advance to start at a later date may not receive notification until 15 school days of the date those applications are considered. All Parent/carers refused a place through the in-year admissions process retain the right of appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel should they request one. Further advice on the appeal process will be contained in the refusal letter where applicable.
